(Sampling) Silence

This object is part of the longform project 'Silence', which explores and challenges the modern persons relationship to technology. With a specific focus on the ways in which we have been robbed of 'Silence - defined herein as the 'abscence of intentional distraction' - and how this changes both pur relationships to ourselves and the external world.

This object was an attempt to gamify the act of 'Silence', the act of being present in world and noticing sounds we would otherwise intentionally block out and ignore. The sample allows the user to record and playback sounds from their environment. The sampler features 3 catergories, 'Drums', 'Bass' and 'Ambience', forcing the user to engage in their environment with a sense musicality. The object is an instrument that encourages active listening and engagement with the surrounding world.
